At ena Development Consultants, we are especially proud to be part of the tourism development on the emerald island of the North Aegean, Thassos. We support the realization of the business visions of seven investors from Xanthi and Thassos, who created their own tourist accommodations on the island. By leveraging the financial tools of the expiring ESPA 2014–2020, and with the support of ena's experienced team, the new businesses successfully secured 50% funding of their expenses through the action "Support for the Establishment and Operation of New Tourism SMEs" under the Operational Programme "Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation", ESPA 2014–2020.
The subsidized expenses included construction works, procurement and installation of machinery and equipment, quality assurance systems, promotion and marketing, software, vehicles, and consulting services.
One of these investments is Perla Beach Hotel. The Marketing Department of ena, as part of creating the new Business Story, had the pleasure and honor of visiting the Perla Beach tourist hotel and speaking with Mr. Yilmaz Nurioglou, getting a small taste of the hospitality and services offered—an experience we will do our best to share with you. The owner of the accommodations kindly answered a series of questions:
How did the idea for your new venture come about?
It was in 2016 when I decided to make a new investment in Thassos. Before that, I had worked for 12 years in a large multinational company in Turkey as a marine engineer. I always saw corporate life as a kind of second university—one through which I would develop the skills needed to eventually manage my own business. It was a difficult decision, as I had to change career, country, and face a number of challenges. But I knew that turning 40 was my last real chance to “escape” and build something of my own. At that time, I was also preparing to become a father, and I decided I wanted to raise my children in a calmer environment—away from the hustle and bustle of Istanbul. All of the above played a role in turning my dream into reality, and I took the first step in 2016 by purchasing the land for my hotel.
How did ena Development Consultants and the ESPA funding contribute to the realization of your project?
The funding from ESPA was extremely important for me, as without it I wouldn’t have been able to complete my business plan. My personal budget was only enough to complete the first phase and the first building of my business project. Only after the approval of my application under the program did I begin construction of the second building of Perla Beach, so this funding was crucial for bringing my idea to life.
I had heard about the funding program before it launched and I was waiting for the call for applications, when my lawyer recommended the company ena Development Consultants to support my investment plan. Working with the ena team was an excellent experience — we collaborated closely throughout the entire process to successfully submit and implement the investment plan.
What makes your business stand out?
It is very difficult for a tourism business to stand out amidst such intense competition. That’s why, together with my Greek architect, we aimed to create a unique and modern design and décor — something different from the classic stone style used by most accommodations in the surrounding area.
Beyond that, true differentiation lies in the service, communication, and personal connection with the guests — so that they themselves distinguish your business thanks to the positive experience they gain from their stay.
Tell us a few words about your business.
Perla Beach Hotel is located right by the sea at Golden Beach in Thassos. It consists of two buildings with a total of 12 rooms — specifically, 6 studios and 6 maisonettes — all decorated in a modern style, combining simplicity with luxurious touches. Altogether, these rooms can accommodate up to 41 guests.
The hotel operates and welcomes guests from June 1st until the end of September each year, and it is mainly visited by families with children.
It features outdoor areas and a swimming pool where guests can relax and enjoy the sun.
